Makeup is so high tech…

Smashbox just launched their newest foundation – Liquid Halo HD Foundation SPF15.  Formulated to keep up with the demands of HD technology, this foundation has gel covered pigments which use liquid light technology.  This technology allows light to bounce off of three surfaces:

  • the gel to blur imperfections
  • the foundation pigment for sheer to medium coverage and
  • the surface of the skin for a beautiful, luminous, more flawless finish

Other benefits of this particular foundation are that it’s

  • oil free
  • humidity and sweat resistant
  • moisturizing
  • works with all undertones

Although I prefer fuller coverage (Make Up Forever Pro Finish, Mac Studio Fix) I decided to give this a try.  I like that this foundation has shade range (Im shade 10) which made me more inclined to try.   I absolutely love how the texture is so lightweight, smooth and luminous.  Instead of using a foundation brush, I did use my fingers.    I would definitely use this on the days when i am not doing a full face, when I want to look more “natural”.

$42.  Available in 10 shades. Sephora, sephora.com, Ulta, and smashbox.com

What’s In My Bag?

In beauty, makeup, makeup artist tools on August 12, 2013 at 9:01 pm

What’s in my makeup bag?

Always on the go, these are my staple, go to products that I keep in my makeup bag to ensure that my look is flawless and polished on the daily.

Makeup Forever Pro Finish Multi-Use Powder Foundation (shade 178).  I love this powder because of the smooth, full coverage it gives as well as it’s versatility because it can be used wet or dry.   To get a sheer to buildable satin finish, wet the sponge, wring out the excess water and evenly saturate the surface of the powder and apply to your face, starting in the center and working your way out.  For more full matte coverage, apply the powder dry with a sponge (my preferred method of application) or dense brush such as the MakeUp Forever Foundation Kabuki Brush or the Bare Minerals Precision Face Brush which I also use and is nothing short of amazing.

I wear a red lip 99% of the time.  It’s a timeless classic look which keeps me glam and ready to hit the town.  To start off, I actually apply my foundation powder to my lips and line my lips with Beautique Lip Pencil in Real Red.

I use these two products to line and prime and my lip color stays put until I take it off.   I then apply Mac Ruby Woo Lipstick and blot a few times (as you can see, I have worn this product down to the metal.  Time for a new tube)

Ruby Woo is super matte and does tend to leave my lips tight and dry (can’t resist the fab shade of red.) I feel that a matte lip is classic, especially with winged out liner however when Im not in the mood for a matte lip, I add Bare Minerals Pretty Amazing Cream Lip Color in Strength on top.  Strength is a super rich, creamy, sumptuous and highly pigmented red which gives non-stop shine and sex appeal.

Ardell Lash Grip Eye Lash Adhesive just in case my lash slips.  FYI – my favorite lashes come from the beauty supply store… I-Envy by KISS in style number KPE11.

Murad Energizing Pomegranate Lip Protector SPF 15 for when Im not in the mood for a colorful lip.  I love this product because it is super shiny, comfortable and shiny on my lips.  Note*  I can only seem to find this product on Amazon.com

Wet N Wild Mega Liner Liquid Eyeliner in 860 (black).  With a price point of about $3, I am impressed with its staying power.  It has a great brush that delivers precision.  I like it so much that I purchase in bulk for my kit.  I usually wear my liner winged out for a classic look.

Tarte Amazonian Clay 12 Hour Blush in Amused.  Im obsessed with pink blush and I use this very liberally in a blended manner to highlight and sculpt my cheeks.  What I like about this product is that it doesn’t break me out and the Amazonian clay helps to balance skin.

Nivea Hand Cream.  I get these super cute tins at CVS for only 99 cents.  Great for keeping my hands nice and soft.

Paper Soap from Pier 1 Imports.  Yes paper soap – just in case I go somewhere and there is no soap.  Take a couple of sheets and add water.  The lather is amazing.

Smashbox Always Sharp Waterproof Kohl Liner

I just tried the Always Sharp Waterproof Kohl Liner by Smashbox and was very impressed for two reasons.  One, this Kohl liner is self sharpening.  The cap of the pencil is designed to sharpen the pencil every time you twist it off.  Amazing.  Now there is  always a precision point to line your eyes with and no need to worry about a pencil sharpener.  The second reason is that this pencil actually lives up to it’s claim of being waterproof.  Usually when a brand claims their liner is waterproof, I find that it still slides around a bit.  Not so with this particular liner.   I put this liner through a series of tests to try the smoothness, texture and finish and to see if it would actually stay put…

1.  I swatched it on the back of my hand.  The liners, which come in 8 fabulous shades and have the precision of a liquid liner, go on smoothly and creamy.

2.  I let the shades set for a few minutes then did a rub test by firmly rubbing the back of my hand to see if the shades would move.  They stayed put!  In disbelief, I rubbed  the back of my hand again.  No budging.

3.  Later on in the day, I washed my hands and dried them off with a paper towel (I forgot that I had swatched my hand).  The colors were still there.

4.  The most important test is the eye test, of course.  I lined my eyes with Cabana (the pretty green liner) on the inner and outer rim and it did not move until I took it off.

$20.  Sephora, sephora.com and smashbox.com
