eye prime and treat

In beauty, makeup on October 31, 2010 at 5:54 pm

there are many awesome eyeshadow primers that i love and use regularly on myself and my clients such as shadow insurance by too faced, urban decay eyeshadow primer potion and smashbox photo finish lid primer.  now im adding to the list Sephora Collection Perfecting Eye Primer.  what i like about this translucent primer is the fact that it can be used around the entire eye area to make your eye makeup/concealer crease proof and long lasting AND it has anti-aging benefits in it to help minimize fine lines and circles .  this product comes in a tube so i use either my finger or a concealer brush to apply.  $14

MakeUP Forever HD Microfinish Powder

In beauty, makeup on October 31, 2010 at 4:48 am

ok so i am so far from being a pubescent adolescent but my skin is super oily.  actually it’s greasy and by midday i look like i have been working on the railroad all the live long day in the hot sun.  well not that bad but you get the point.  i have tried countless oil control lotions, mattifiers, blotting papers, you name it, i have probably tried it and without much success. so i gave up.   i have even shared my angst with my clients, telling them to just live with the slick face.  today, however, was different.  i decided to take the advice of some of my MUA partners (and some clients) and use MakeUp Forever HD Microfinish Powder and let me tell you…my face stayed matte for most of the day.  i could not believe it!  i just took a large powder brush and pressed and rolled it into the colorless powder (FYI…works on all complexions.  im dark-skinned), shook off the excess and pressed and rolled the brush onto my face.  AMAZING!!!! im going to try again for the next few days before i completely sign off but i think i might be onto something.  stay tuned…$15 for .17 oz, $30 for .35oz  sold exclusively at Sephora

make it last

Lipstick used to make a symbolic kiss.

one of the most common complaints i hear from clients is about lipstick that fades quickly or doesnt last throughout the day. now i dont believe there is a such thing as fade resistant lipstick and i do believe that at some point during your day you will need to touch up, but here is a way to ensure that your lipstick will last more than 15 minutes…

first:  prime your lips with a lip primer such as too faced lip primer or lightly apply your foundation powder to your lips  (my preferred method and also a great way of achieving the perfect nude lip with clear gloss on top).  doing so fills in fine lines/texture and gives lip color something to adhere to.

second:  take your lipliner and line/fill in your lips (filling in most of your lip softens the lipline).

third:  apply your favorite lipstick, blot and then reapply.
